UPstart Designs

Once your site has been designed to your satisfaction, the process will go as follows:

• Balance of design fees are paid.
• Hosting fees are paid (one year) - we host through a third party, so fees are non-negotiable. Longer hosting can be arranged, and may incur a discount.
• IF you already own a domain name, we will need all of the details (the domain itself, for instance www. some name .com.au , the web address of the company you bought it from, and the log-in details they gave you).
• IF you don't have a domain name, we will create it as part of the hosting, which is free.

Choosing a domain name is important, because you need to understand how people behave on the net. If you have your heart set on a very complex web address, we will advise against it, but it is your decision. Imagine, though, trying to find a website named www. davesbusinessonhighstreetanytownaustralia.com.au - no one would ever find it!

Generally, we will try and get the closest domain name that matches your business/band/group name.
Once the hosting is paid and set up, we upload the files, and your site goes live!

After that, continuing support begins. 

Overnight updates

If you find a mistake on the site, we will fix that as soon as we can, which will be that night. If there is a critical change needed (say, you change your phone number or address), these will also occur overnight.

Small Changes

If you have a small change that you want to happen, we will attempt to make it that night. This could be the addition of a few photos to galleries, or something simple. The latest these changes will occur is on the following weekend. A limited number of small changes per month will be free.

Major Changes

Deciding what is a major change is difficult without knowing what the change may be. Basically, we will let you know if any change you want to happen is a major one. We will do major changes at the earliest opportunity, but small changes from other businesses will be done ahead of major changes, to avoid a bottle neck of work (remember, $100 a year for work done is pretty cheap!).

Major Changes may include (but is not limited to) monthly changes to a “specials” page if you are selling merchandise, adding a new photo gallery, adding more than 10 photos, and uploading large files (such as music or video files). Major changes will also include anything that requires direct communication with yourself while we are making the changes, such as dealing with financial information ie paypal etc. Please read below about dealing with financial information

We reserve the right to charge for major changes - we will let you know if this will need to happen before the changes occur. Fees will start at $20 an hour and increase according to complexity.

Major Critical Changes

If you have a major change that must happen as soon as possible, we will always charge for the change, as we will prioritise it over another business’ work.

Design Changes

Design Changes can be done as well, but this will require a new design fee. We will let you know if a change you request is major enough to be considered a design change. This does NOT include updating your business logos if you change them, and may not include colour scheme changes. Basically, you let us know what you want done, and we will tell you if it is major enough to be a design change. Obviously with a design change, if you don't like the new design, the old one stays in place, and you don't pay the balance of the design fee.

Other Important Support Issues

Graphic Design: Please note we can design a website just fine, but we do not do graphical manipulation. If you need a logo designed or similar, we can have one mocked up by a third party, and upon approval, the final product will be made. Of course designing your own logo, if you have the ability, is usually the best way to go. Any charges from third parties will be passed on to yourself, and are not included in the website design fees.

Sending us pictures/photos: - When you have photos or graphics that you want on your site, you will want to send it our way. When the site is initially created, you will want to send us a whole bunch. To make this easy, we will create an account for you on a website called flickr. Once it is set up, you log in, select the pictures you want to send us, upload them, name them. We get them automatically. Simple as that. If you have trouble operating a computer or the internet, just find someone you know who can, and get them to show you - uploading to Flickr is very very simple - you should be able to get it after you are shown once.

Website statistics: - When you have a website, especially when you pay for it, you want to know if people are actually looking it up! We use a website that gives you a summary email each week, telling you how many hits you got, how many people turned up that week, and how many came back in that week. It also gives you a counter to use on your website. We require your email for this to work.

Holiday: - Occasionally, we go on holiday. We will let customers know in advance of this. Generally speaking, this means you can't get support while we are on holiday.

Dealing With Financial Information - Paypal: Paypal is a very secure, trustworthy site for transferring money over the internet. We can set up a Paypal account for you and create "inventory" with them so that you receive payments online. This may require sensitive financial information, such as bank account details. Once we have created your account with paypal (if it is needed), we will destroy the information you have given us, and we will encourage you to log in to paypal and change the password. If you ever need to make a change to your website that involves paypal involvement, we will need to coordinate with you to receive your log in details again. Once any changes are made, we advise you change your password again.
